Animation- secondary character: the cat

Adding grass and attempting to alter the face on perspective as it does not yet make sense

I think I definitely prefer the face with more space around it and less marking

Animation- adding more movement to my bird and trying to make it less robotic

Not entirely sure wether I should keep his face covered when he looks at the “camera”

MIND MAPPING

LADY LAZARUS

Promotes strong ideas of resurrection
Idea of a phoenix
Especially with the ashes imagery

NAZI GERMANY
Propaganda
Colour theme?
Posters?
Referred to Jews as mice
Maybe is should be a bird in stead of a mouse, in a game of cat and mouse and at the end the bird is resurrected
Phoenix

BIBLIE INFLUENCES
Resurrection
4 days

IDEAS
Cat could catch the bird under its paws and then the bird flames beneath it? =Phoenix
Or
Takes paws off bird to reveal a pile of ash which begins to smoulder and the phoenix emerges?

Research into the poem

Lady Lazurus - Sylvia Plath

One of the most dynamic and admired poets of the 20th century

Took her life at 30 —“I AM ONLY THIRTY”

Poetry was an attempt to catalogue despair violent emotion and obsession with death

              Post war poet

Committed suicide by inhaling gas from a kitchen oven

Plath used History “to explain herself”
Writing about Nazi concentration camps as though she had been imprisoned there

She said: ‘ I think that personal experience shouldn’t be a kind of shut box and mirror looking experience narcissistic experience. I believe it should be generally relevant, to such things as Hiroshima and Dachau’

METAPHORS OF THE TERRIFYING HUMAN MIND

LAZARUS
     Lazarus of Bethany
     Saint Lazurus
     Lazarus
Subject of the prominent miracle of Jesus in the Gospel of John, in which Jesus restores him to life four days after death

Structure
Twenty eight stanza or terrestrial of three lines each

Poem is commonly understood to be about suicide
Strong ideas of resurrection
  “Done it again”

Poem choice

Lady Lazarus

                    Rose after death
I have done it again.
One year in every ten
I manage it——
                                   Does not know how
A sort of walking miracle, my skin
Bright as a Nazi lampshade,
My right foot.             Nazi interrogation lampshade?

A paperweight,
My face a featureless, fine
Jew linen.

Peel off the napkin
O my enemy.
Do I terrify?——       Leaves a question hanging

The nose, the eye pits, the full set of teeth?
The sour breath.         Grim imagery/ ominous/ unfeeling
Will vanish in a day.

Soon, soon the flesh
The grave cave ate will be
At home on me

And I a smiling woman.
I am only thirty.          To young to die/ Author died at this age/ connotation of suicide
And like the cat I have nine times to die.
                                    Cat is a preditor
Nazis used to portray themselves as cats and the Jews as mice
                                                                      Cat and mouse
This is Number Three.
What a trash
To annihilate each decade.

What a million filaments.
The peanut-crunching crowd      Oblivious German citizens
Shoves in to see

Them unwrap me hand and foot——
The big strip tease.
Gentlemen, ladies

These are my hands
My knees.
I may be skin and bone,
                                     Concentration camps

Nevertheless, I am the same, identical woman.
The first time it happened I was ten.
It was an accident.

The second time I meant
To last it out and not come back at all.
I rocked shut

As a seashell.
They had to call and call
And pick the worms off me like sticky pearls.

Dying
Is an art, like everything else.
I do it exceptionally well.

I do it so it feels like hell.
I do it so it feels real.
I guess you could say I’ve a call.

It’s easy enough to do it in a cell.
It’s easy enough to do it and stay put.
It’s the theatrical

Comeback in broad day
To the same place, the same face, the same brute
Amused shout:

‘A miracle!’
That knocks me out.
There is a charge

For the eyeing of my scars, there is a charge
For the hearing of my heart——
It really goes
Surprised, it shouldn’t work with all its gone through
And there is a charge, a very large charge
For a word or a touch
Or a bit of blood

Or a piece of my hair or my clothes.
So, so, Herr Doktor.
So, Herr Enemy.

I am your opus,
I am your valuable,
The pure gold baby
                       Doctors profiting from them
That melts to a shriek.
I turn and burn.
Do not think I underestimate your great concern.
               Euthanised/ concentration camp
Ash, ash—
You poke and stir.
Flesh, bone, there is nothing there——

A cake of soap,
A wedding ring,
A gold filling.
               The only items left
Herr God, Herr Lucifer
Beware
Beware.

Out of the ash
I rise with my red hair
And I eat men like air.
                Revenge/ vengeance
                 Phoenix rising from the ashes

I don’t know how I would visualise this whilst being respectful.
  • Maybe a Phoenix rising from the ashes
  • Small details In the ashes, such as the ring/ gold filling
  • Cat and mouse imagery- maybe cat and bird? And the bird turns into a Phoenix ?
